Isle of Scilly
The first on our list of UK hidden gems is Isle of Scilly. Often overlooked or not mentioned in the planning of a UK visit, Isle of Scilly is a small island filled with natural beauty. Situated 30 miles of the south west tip of the beautiful Cornwall, you’ll find a soft Mediterranean climate, tropical eye-catching plants as well as white sandy beaches with blue waters. The Isles of Scilly are unique in that there are no roads, leaving the beautiful landscape untouched and home to much wildlife. Explore on foot, bike or boat and be blown away at what this little gem has to offer.
The Mourne Wall – Northern Ireland
Stretch your legs along the breath-taking Mourne Wall. This beautiful place stretches over 22 miles and passes 15 different mountains coming to a delightful end at the summit of Slieve Donard. The Mourne Wall is a much overlooked area despite having two prehistoric burial sites and visitors being able to see Belfast, Dublin and coastal views of the east on a clear day. A great escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The Galloway Red Kite Trail - Scotland
Head to Scotland and get up close and personal with the beautiful Red Kites. The Galloway Red Kite Trail is situated around the gorgeous Loch Ken with 24 four miles going anticlockwise in winter and an additional sixteen miles of forest drive in the summer. Cycle or walk this exciting trail and stop at viewing and feeding stations to be blown away by the majestic quality of the Red Kites.
Ceibwr Bay – Wales
Set on the south side of Cardigan Bay sits the little Ceibwr Bar, a hidden gem that is often missed and forgotten. Unlike the more popular bays of Wales, Ceibwr bay is quite and calm. Locals will tell you tales of the bay once being used as a smuggler’s cove, today it is proudly owned by the National Trust. Ceibwr is a rocky bay with hills, cliffs and gorgeous water to take a dip in.
Durham Dales, High Force Waterfall - England
Next on our list of UK hidden gems is The Durham Dales, which are renowned for their outstanding natural beauty. Rolling countryside that is filled with activities to get involved in; walk, hike, bike, swim or climb, it’s hard to not have a good time in the Dales. An SMC favourite is the magnificent High Force Waterfall. Hidden in the woodland walk from the Bowlees visitor centre, at whopping 21 meters, High Force is England’s highest uninterrupted drop of water. Once you’re done gazing at this natural fairy-tale like setting you can go check out Low Force, a smaller series of falls that are equally awe inspiring.
St Govans Chapel – Wales
Hidden on the side of a cliff south of Stackpole is a little hidden treat. Built into the fissures of the cliff is a small, unexpected 14th century chapel. Sitting above the crashing waves below, those coming to cliff via boat will only just notice it when they are mere yards away. St Govan’s Chapel is shrouded in mystery and legend, this chapel is a must see during your visit to Wales.
