As we embark on the shortest month of the year, our minds turn to the fast approaching February half term. While this week comes as a well earned break for families around the country, we all know it's far from relaxing. Trying to keep the whole family entertained can be quite the task. So we frequently turn to going for days out, often as a group.

Travel over to Wales and visit The Centre for Alternative Technology to discover a hidden world, packed full of working examples of renewable energy, beautiful organic gardens, experimental green buildings and sustainably managed woodlands.
Hop aboard the water-balanced railway to make your ascent up to the impressive yellow coloured visitor centre. Here you’ll be greeted with a series of fun and interactive renewable energy displays showcasing some of the most innovative energy sources out there. All of which promote the need to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels as we look to safeguarding our future.
Pull on your walking boots and stomp around the quarry trail. A manageable and well-maintained footpath which takes you up into the hills, unlocking the stunning views of the surrounding area.
Make your way back down and let the kids run riot in the adventure playground. Conveniently located just a short walk from the café, perfect for a fresh cup of coffee to finish your day off.

Hogshaw Farm and Wildlife Park first opened to the public in 2014 as an environmentally friendly, rare breeds farm for the local community to enjoy. Built on the site of a clay pit in Cornwall, the Eden Project’s honeycomb bubble biomes have become an iconic symbol of sustainable tourism. As well as an eco-friendly attraction, Eden is an educational charity and a social enterprise.
Once you arrive at the impressive project, you’ll be faced with the tough decision of what to explore first. However, the world’s largest indoor rainforest has got to be on the top of your list. Take your pick out of the four distinct types of rainforest environments on offer and follow the canopy walkways for the best views across the biomes.
Sounds a bit too tame for you? The Eden Project also happens to be home to England’s fastest zip wire. Soar above the iconic domes at speeds of up to 60 mph while travelling along the 600 metre long zip wire. You’ll also find other adrenaline-fuelled experiences such as an aerial assault course, giant swing and a leap of faith.

Coined as the ‘secret wildlife oasis’ of the centre of Birmingham, The ‘Birmingham and Black Country Eco Park’ is a must visit when you're in the midlands. The centre has dedicated itself to re-creating and conserving natural habitats for a vast variety of animals within a city setting in order to educate the masses on the importance of protecting wildlife.
Around the grounds you’ll find an array of ponds, woodlands and meadows, all of which are bursting with vast numbers of habitats and species alike. The Eco Park is the perfect day out to educate the kids on all things wildlife, while also having fun doing it.

The highlight of Kew Gardens has got to be its world-renowned glasshouses showcasing species from all over the globe. Not only are they fascinating to explore but they also act as vital facilities for Kew’s scientific work in protecting endangered plants.
As well as looking round the indoor glasshouses, the outdoor gardens themselves provide a magnificent tour of magnolias and unique rhododendron hybrids.
