Greenpaw: Innovative Carbon Offsetting for More Sustainable Travel

Stephen Chesters, founder of Greenpaw, explains their approach: "Our main focus at Greenpaw is regenerating lands depleted by human activity while enhancing spaces for biodiversity to thrive. We take a whole-system approach, addressing soil and water quality improvements alongside supporting local communities to flourish."

 Greenpaw currently runs two major initiatives: 

Kalunga Reforestation Project 

This project focuses on restoring native vegetation in Brazil's Cerrado biome, one of the most threatened ecosystems on Earth. Working with the Kalunga people (descendants of formerly enslaved people who merged African traditions with local Indigenous practices), Greenpaw has already planted 5,330 trees. The project not only helps capture carbon but also provides sustainable economic opportunities for the Kalunga community. 

Mangroves Regeneration Project

Dedicated to coastal ecosystem improvement, this project has already planted 5,330 mangroves along Brazil's coast. Mangroves are particularly effective at carbon capture while also protecting biodiversity and reducing coastal erosion. 

Through these projects, Greenpaw aims to plant a total of 15,000 trees and mangroves in its first year and offset hundreds of tonnes of carbon emissions.
